Detectives are investigating the circumstances under which a bomb found its way inside a matatu on transit to Nakuru.

The 120 millimeters ordinance bomb was discovered on Thursday afternoon by police during a routine check at Nairobi Central police station.

According to central police boss Richard Muguai, the 120 millimeters ordinance bomb was lethal and a security threat to the passengers.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect as they strive to probe his intentions.

Experts from the Bomb Disposal Unit were later called to the scene where they examined the device and described it as a “dangerous mortar propelled bomb.

A similar bomb was on Tuesday discovered outside a supermarket in Maua town, occurrences that are bound to raise security concerns over the frequency of such deadly recoveries.
